夫酒醴之近味,年代之久遠,賢愚之所嗜,禮典之所先。然而醉者豈獨喪威儀、虧德義、損年壽、傷胎傷氣已哉?乃使智者失計,勇士忘怒,貞女失節,廉士忘恥。是以荊軻沉飲而謀露,禽慶酗酒而禍臨。

Wine and sweet liquor — flavor near at hand, custom of distant ages, beloved by wise and foolish alike, foremost in ritual codes.
And yet does the drunkard merely lose his dignified bearing, diminish his virtue, shorten his years, harm fetus and wound the qi?
He also causes the wise to lose their stratagems, the brave to forget their anger, the chaste woman to lose her integrity, the upright official to forget shame.
Thus Jing Ke, sunk in drink, leaked his plot [to assassinate the First Emperor];Qin Qing, mad with wine, brought disaster upon himself.
