The text recounts the mythic descent: the Jade-Pure Perfected King, as the eldest son of the Primordial Heavenly Worthy, agreed to descend into the human realm to save the suffering of the Last Age (mojie 末劫).

His ritual entourage includes Qinghua Dadi (Great Emperor of Green Florescence, lord of the eastern paradise and patron of soul-salvation) and Dongji Jiuku Tianzun (Heavenly Worthy of the Eastern Pole Who Saves from Suffering, the Daoist analogue of Kṣitigarbha).

This descent narrative provided the ritual basis for Emperor Huizong's identification with the deity in 1117.

Meulenbeld (*Demonic Warfare* 2015: 56–62) argues that this descent narrative functions theologically much as the Buddhist trikāya doctrine: Yuqing Zhenwang is the *nirmāṇakāya*-like manifestation of an inconceivable cosmic principle.

Schipper (*Taoist Canon* p.1083) treats the inclusion of Jiuku Tianzun as evidence of Shenxiao's deliberate incorporation of Buddhist-influenced salvific imagery — a major shift from earlier Tianshi austerity.

Qing Xitai (中國道教史 vol.3 ch.4) reads the Huizong-period mythology as a court Daoism crafted to compete with the Tiantai-Huayan synthesis that dominated Northern Song Buddhism.
